The intention of Grace Arents’ endowment was to support St. Andrew’s School in perpetuity, enabling it to continue serving Richmond’s low-income children. However, we must rely on additional financial support from the community to allow us to continue to serve Richmond area children and be stewards of Grace Arents legacy.
St. Andrew’s School’s Annual Fund provides a pool of unrestricted funds from individuals, corporations, foundations, churches, and organizations that support opening a window of educational opportunity for students and their families. Our goal for the 2009-20010 Annual Fund is $400,000.
You can help make the vision of St. Andrew’s School a reality. Unlike traditional private schools, which are able to depend on the funds generated by tuition and alumni to meet their expenses, we are a tuition-free elementary school and must turn to the community -- people like you, who value education -- to sustain this important venture.
The Annual Fund is a means by which we are able to provide this unique opportunity each year. As an annual supporter, you will play a crucial role in this vital, collective effort to sustain St. Andrew's School, now and into the future.

St. Andrew’s School has been approved as a Neighborhood Assistance Program (“NAP”) project for the fiscal year 2009-20010. Under this program, donors making a qualified gift are entitled to receive a credit of 40% of their gift on their Virginia state income tax returns, and can also claim a charitable contribution deduction on their federal income tax returns. Because St. Andrew’s has received a limited number of credits, we are making these benefits available first only to those donors who give $1,000 or more.
The following example is illustrative of the potential benefits available to a donor under the Neighborhood Assistance Program. If Donor A gives $10,000 in cash to St. Andrew’s School, he or she will receive a credit of 40% of the gift ($4,000) on his/her Virginia state income tax return. This credit therefore reduces the actual cost of the gift to $6,000. In addition, Donor A may also claim the entire $10,000 gift as a deduction on Donor A’s federal income tax return. Thus, if Donor A is in the 35% tax bracket, the $10,000 deduction can result in a federal income tax savings of $3,500. When this amount is added to the state tax credit of $4,000 under NAP, the after-tax “cost” of the gift to Donor A is reduced to $2,500. ($10,000 - $4,000 state tax credit - $3,500 federal tax savings = $2,500.) For a $1,000 gift under the above hypothetical example, the “cost” to the donor is only $250.
Although donations under the program in the past were limited to cash, gifts of stock now also qualify under the program.
In order to obtain the credit, the donor must fill out the attached Form CNF-E, Parts I and II, and submit it to the School along with the donation for processing. The School will then complete Part III and submit it to the Virginia Department of Social Services, Neighborhood Assistance Program, which will issue a tax credit certificate to the donor which should be attached to the donor’s Virginia state income tax return.
Please be aware that St. Andrew’s School is not able to provide personal tax advice. Therefore, if you are considering such a gift, we encourage you to seek advice from your tax accountant or other tax advisor.
